Prim. Mr. Sc. Meliha Hadžović Čengić, MD
Infectious Disease Specialist
Infectious disease specialist with 22 years of experience and work at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. Currently in the course of subspecialization in intensive care medicine.
She was born in Sarajevo, where she graduated from Elementary School and First Gymnasium. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in May 2001. She gained her first work experience at the American pharmaceutical company Alcon. Since 2002, she has been an employee of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases at CCUS.
In 2009, she became a regular member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID). That same year she became a member of the Association of Infectologists in BiH, and as of recently a member of the BHAAAS (Bosnia-Hezegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences). She has been a member of the Commission for the Prevention and Suppression of Hospital Infections at CCUS on several occasions, which is also what she is currently doing. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Commission for the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases at the Federal Ministry of Health.
At the Faculty of Medicine in 2010, she was appointed as an assistant for the course Infectious Diseases. In 2014, she was selected as senior assistant. She's currently engaged as an associate from practice.
During her residency, she worked at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases Dr. Fran Mihaljević, Zagreb, Croatia - Intensive Care Unit, and at the University Hospital Lund in Sweden. She attended and successfully completed the Salzburg Weill Cornell/MSKCC Seminar on Infectious Diseases, Salzburg, Austria. She attended and successfully completed the Advanced Paediatrics Life Support Course (APLS) organized by the Pediatric Educational Center Sarajevo with lecturers from Manchester. Sarajevo, BiH. She actively participated in the First and Second Bosnia and Herzegovina Academy for Infection Management (AIM). Sarajevo, BiH. Participant of the 75th scientific-professional symposium "Contemporary possibilities of prevention of infectious diseases", Clinic for Infectious Diseases Dr. Fran Mihaljevic, Zagreb, Croatia. She participated in Continuous Education Courses on the topics "Multiple Resistant Gram Negative Infections and Their Treatment" and " Newer Aspects of Antibiotic Treatment" organized by the Croatian Society of Chemotherapy, Zagreb, Croatia. Participant of the II Workshop of Intensive Care Medicine organized by the FBAIM (French-Bosnian Association of Intensive Care Medicine), Sarajevo BiH.
She was an invited lecturer at several scientific conferences, author and co-author of scientific papers published in indexed journals.
She is a co-author of three books: Infectious Diseases, Internist Oncology and Thromboprophylaxis in Clinical Practice.
During the COVID 19 pandemic, through active engagement in patient care, she actively participated in domestic and international webinars and panel sessions.
2020 winner of the Own Contribution to Health Improvement Award and named "Woman of the Year" by the Ladies In Awards.
She was a participant as a co-investigator in two international studies.
