The Department of General internal medicine will subspecialise the following: gastroenterology, hepatology, oncology, immunology, endocrinology, diabetes, geriatrics and nephrology.

- Gastroenterology and hepatology
- Metabolic disorders (diabetes mellitus)
- Pulmonology (bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Complications associated with diabetes mellitus (e.g. diabetic foot)
- Clinical Geriatrics and Gerontology
- Laboratory for neuropathy, diagnostics and therapeutic management of diabetic polyneuropathy
- Treatment of endocrinological disorders (thyroid disorders, parathyroid glands, pituitary tumours)
- Vascular disorders – including secondary (endocrine) causes of hypertension
- Endocrinological andrology, especially in cases of diabetes-induced erectile dysfunction
- Palliative therapy concepts, palliative care
- Hepatic disorders
